Create beautiful knitted flowers in under one hour. They are perfect to ornate your craft projects or knits. You can use small leftovers of yarn and buttons for endless variations.
For the pink flowers, I used medium weight (4) yarn with 4mm knitting needles for a finished flower measuring 65mm across (2½ inch). I also used a slightly chunkier yarn (green flower) and 4.5mm needles for a finished flower measuring 70mm (2¾ in).
The steps:
- Cast on 51 stitches
- Work 4 rows in Stocking stitch (knit 1 row, purl 1 row)
- On 5th row: work 1 stitch, bind off 9 stitches. Repeat 5 times.
- Cut yarn leaving a long tail. Thread that long end through the remaing stitches with a tapestry needle
- Sew a few stitches to gather center of flower, making sure to place the petals as desired.
Now you only need to add a pretty vintage button or a coconut button using the remaining yarn end. The same yarn tail can be used to attach flower onto your project. Otherwise, secure end with a knot and trim excess.
