The Mock Ribbing Stitch
If you're like me, maybe you like to make small samples to try new knitting stitches...
 
Here is a knitting stitch that I like. The pattern requires a number of stitches that divides by 3. For example, you could knit 45 stitches (15 x 3).  
 
Row 1 - K1 * P1, K1. Repeat from * until the end of the row.
Row 2 - Purl
 
Repeat these two rows as long as you want.
 
  
And I think the reverse is gorgeous!
 
My sample was knitted with a cotton thread, on 4.5mm needles, with 30 stitches. The result may be different (and that's interesting) if you knit it with another kind of wool and needle size.
