Easy knitted dishcloth

f6f1d-lavette2bau2btricot2bfacile

I wanted an easy knitting project for the summer. The kind of no brainer project yet still enjoyable to knit. And admittedly, my stash of dishclothes was getting super low!

So I dug into my yarn bins and found all those pretty balls of cotton yarn!

I also found a free pattern on Bernat’s website. But here are my notes on it.

The super simple pattern makes square disclothes measuring approx. 25 cm (10 inches) along each side.

Tension:  16 sts and 30 rows = 4 inches (10cm) in garter stitch
————————————————————-
  • Cast on 3 stitches
  • Row 1: (Right Side) Work even in garter stitch.
  • Row 2: knit 1 stitch, increase 1 stitch in next stitch. Knit to end of row.
  • Repeat last row until you have 53 stitches.
  • Next row: knit 2 stitches. Knit 2 stitches together. Knit to end of row.
  • Repeat last row until you have 3 stitches.
  • Bind off all stitches. Weave in ends.
————————————————————-
Bernat suggests using their “handicrafter” cotton yarn with 5.5mm (US 9) knitting needles. But when you have a look at the labels, the suggested needle size is 4.5mm (US 7).

After a first try with the larger size needles (5.5mm – US 9) I found the resulting fabric too floppy. Therefore, I switched to the recommended needle size for each of the yarn balls I used.

As for the final size of the dishcloth, you can adapt it to suit your personal taste or your yarn remnants. After all, this is a brainless knitting project…

You’ll then find tons of free patterns to try and have fun with!
