Quick and easy free knitting pattern: Make a beautiful knitted shawl

Here’s a shawl I’ve been knitting again and again for two years now. I really like how both warm and light this shawl is. And I’m a huge fan of seed stitch !

This is a quick and easy project, knit using 2 strands of yarn held together. I used a 100% wool rustic yarn, which gives it both durability and warmth, and a mohair-type yarn to add volume and softness.

You’ll need 12 mm knitting needles and 3 skeins of 100 g of yarn (113 meters / 145 yards). The yarn I used is available in several colors. You will also need a mohair-type yarn. I used a thin yarn for this project.

You’ll easily make a few tries to decide on the final width of your shawl. I chose to cast on 29 stitches, which produces a shawl measuring 14 inches wide (36 cm). It is knit entirely in Seed stitch (knit 1, purl 1), so you’ll need an odd number of stitches.

Because we’re using such large needles, the resulting fabric is light and airy, nearly lace-like… The resulting shawl is simply beautiful !

You can knit on until shawl measures 63 inches (160 cm), which is a perfect length for a shawl or long scarf. Then cut lengths of yarn measuring each 13 inches (33 cm) for fringes. I used 8 strands of yarn per fringe (4 of wool yarn and 4 of mohair yarn).

Happy knitting ! And feel free to send pictures of your finished projects !!! 🙂
